Can we just have some level of competence on some level of government? Is that really so much to ask? Do we have to have incompetent, coal-hearted bureaucrats in charge of everything?

Just so we’re clear…

November 19, 2008

There’s been talk about how we are a ‘center-right’ country. But that’s incorrect. Our political class is’center-right.’ Our populace is ‘center-left.’

Hence our endless disappointment and boiling-over rage.

God bless America and nobody else!!

Let the disappointment begin!

The question before senate Democrats today wasn’t whether or not to seek revenge on Joe Lieberman.

The question was whether or not to strengthen the hand of one of the fiercest proponents of Bush-McCain foreign and homeland security policy.

Daily Kos: The Wrong Decision, Pragmatically Speaking

The thing is, Lieberman is the anti-Democrat when it comes to the heart of the matter. He doesn’t care about restoring our civil liberties, or those of anyone else, including Iraqis, Afghanis, anyone accused of being a ‘terrorist,’ and immigrants caught in our bankrupt system. This financial mess, our endless debates on choice, etc etc — they all mean nothing compared to our basic, fundamental rights to just plain live. No investigation into Katrina. No investigation into Gitmo. No investigation into extraordinary rendition, torture, or spying on American citizens. And, shockingly, no investigation into this.

We are screwed.

I voted for Obama and I even gave his campaign money. But I have never had illusions about his actual politics. He’s no liberal and his building ‘coalitions across party lines’ may sound great on the campaign trail, but what will it do to rectify, and stop, the human rights abuses that have been prevalent under the Bush administration? If no one is held responsible then none of it will stop.

Just. Plain. Wrong.

It’s admittedly a rare gift to produce a paragraph in which whole clumps of words could be removed without noticeably affecting the sense, if any.

Margin of victory in Cook County? More than 1 MILLION.

Yep. For reals.

via YouTube – San Diego Mayor Stands Up For Marriage Equality

Mayor Sanders is a republican who vowed to veto gay marriage rights during his campaign. But he has had a change of heart and he makes an emotional plea for equality in this video. My husband and I are fortunate to share a loving, strong marriage. Our gay and lesbian friends, neighbors, and family members should have the same opportunity to have strong and loving marriages as we have had. Let’s bring our country into the 21st century and say yes to marriage. It’s time!

Yep.

Daily Kos: RIP John Galt

I had no idea Greenspan was a close friend to Ayn Rand, though of course I’m not surprised.

May he rest in peace indeed.
